About bDub Handplane

All bDub Handplanes are crafted from solid hardwoods. The wood is through & through, never a decal or veneer.  We use a variety of hardwoods sourced from around the globe & local domestics such as Hard Maple, Walnut & Mahogany to African hardwoods such as Wenge, Bubinga & Sapele (/səˈpiːli/) just to name a few. 

All handplanes are finished with UV resistant epoxy for durability & protection. The epoxy employs a crystal clear formula to eliminate any yellowing & allows the natural beauty of the wood to shine through. bDub Handplanes are then finished with multiple coats of UV resistant marine varnish to bring out their color and unique grain patterns. Polishing with a high-quality wax is the final step. This brings out a satin finish like you’d see on fine furniture. Your bDub handplane is watertight & ready for action.    

The natural beauty of the wood is never altered. Therefore, no two handplanes are identical even if the wood pattern is the same. The finishing process seals & protects the wood, however, vibrant wood tends to dull and lose its color over time with exposure to the sun, therefore, bDub Handplanes are treated with a high-quality UV resistant finish to minimize this natural process. Due to these nasty UV rays, it’s a good idea to keep your handplane out of the sun when you’re not carving up the waves. With proper care, your bDub Handplane should maintain its beautiful look & provide many years of high quality fun.
